The Art of Pinky Toast is at Wax Poetic Gallery in Burbank Tonight!
Today is a very L.A. day for me because I thought I might be shooting webisodes, and then that pushed, so I'm going to a superfun party in Venice, and because of that, I'm missing a kick-ass opening at Wax Poetic Gallery in Burbank. Which blows, but the party is a friend's big annual party I've never been to. Meanwhile, Wax Poetic's Gallery openings, while one of my favorite things to do, happen more than once a year.
So.
You should go since I can't.
Or invent cloning for me. One of those.
Here's the 411 on Pinky Toast at Wax Poetic TONIGHT (and it's the Halloween show! Damn, you, Los Angeles scheduling curse!):
Wax Poetic Gallery's 9th Annual Halloween Show featuring the art of Pinkytoast.
Opening Reception Saturday, October 11.
Original art, prints, and accessories will be available for sale through the run of the show which closes January 5th, 2009.
Wax Poetic Gallery is proud to present the sexy, sassy, charming, and at times haunting art of Pinkytoast. Opening reception will be held Saturday, October 11 from 8-11 p.m.; records will be spinning by resident DJ, DJ Jag and refreshments will be served. This show is suitable for all ages and will be on display through the end of the year. In addition to original paintings, the gallery will have prints and lots of fun Pinkytoast accessories available for sale as well.
Pinkytoast studied at Cal Arts, San Francisco Art Institute, and abroad in Mexico & Florence. The primary subject of her pieces center around doll-like girls, with pouty eyes that would make anime characters green with envy, along with an element of the macabre: one girl might be hiding a knife behind her back, while another has arms made of gnarled tree branches. Her early influences as an artist came from her dad's collection of Robert Crumb comics, "The Wizard of Oz", and the Muppets.
This show will be the first solo show for the artist. Says Wax Poetic owner Kerry Hite, "We are thrilled to be the first gallery to do a solo exhibition with Pinkytoast. And I am certain we will not be the last."
Pinkytoast will be in attendance. "I'm pretty excited," said the artist, "It will be the first time I get to meet the people who buy my work. I'm really looking forward to it."
Wax Poetic's Annual Halloween show kicks off a month full of cool events in Los Angeles centered around Halloween and it is also a bit of a Costume Ball so feel free to dress up. The girls from Wax Poetic will be dressing up in the style of Pinkytoast's characters.
Now, Angelinos are surely thinking, Liz, do both, but because of the location of the party in the far off land of Venice and the fact that it involves movie viewing, I can not. These are the difficult choices of Angelino life, my friends.
So if you live in Los Angeles, and you feel my pain, go check out the opening tonight, enjoy the art and the company, and please, have a chocolate-covered pretzel cookie for me.
