It has been completely gorgeous in Los Angeles recently. Every morning I brew my coffee and throw open my sliding door. Which feels miraculous after 6 years of facing the freeway. Also, so great in terms of my electric bill.
Today was a beautiful day for a hike or a bike ride. But instead, I used my beautiful day energy to beautify my space - starting with laundry, cleaning the fridge, taking out the trash - and my mind - movies, books. In terms of productivity, this was a day where I cleaned my tall kitchen garbage can.
I know, you're so jealous, right? You totally wish your garbage can was sparkly clean like mine.
And I finally finished an audio book I had planned to finish during my last week at the studio. That plan got torpedoed by an evil cold which left me simply concentrating on driving and staying alive. So I was glad to finally finish that one and feel more on track with my reading.
I watched my Netflix disk (The Informant!) and my first complete Netflix streaming movie on my television with my shiny new Wii streaming disk (The 39 Steps).
And mostsuperawesome, I made Much Vegetable Goodness. The past few days I've been whipping up all the vegetables I have on hand *before* I go grocery shopping again. I was feeling a little buried in vegetables for a beat there. (For a "beet" there?)
For breakfast I whipped up stir-fried cabbage with fennel seeds (from Madhur Jaffrey's Quick & Easy Indian Cooking) and then had it in a whole wheat tortilla with some eggs and low-fat feta. Delicious! I wasn't sure if the cabbage would be good with the eggs, but it totally was.
For dinner I used a cauliflower and two green peppers for this vegetables in Thai red curry recipe from my new love, Vegetarian Times. Yes, I'm ordering a paper magazine. I thought I was done with paper magazines forever, but I picked up a copy of the March 2010 issue, and it is AWESOME. I already made the greens and quinoa pie, and this week I'm going to make mac and cheese for grown-ups (whole wheat penne, spinach, garlic, and Parmesan).
I've pretty much committed to free-range meat only at this point. There are a few exceptions, most notably my monthly trip downtown for cheap beer & wings. But I'm primarily back on track eating vegetarian most days, getting a Rosie chicken on occasion, and I'm hoping to pick up some more Lindner bison soon as well. I don't really have anything in my freezer but ice cubes, Boca burgers, and some frozen peas and edamame, so I'm thinking I'll pick up a couple cuts and keep them in the freezer for when I'm craving a little red meat.
Now the day is drawing to a close. I just got off a call from an old friend who's visiting in a few weeks. So nice to chat, and so nice to have a visit to look forward to.
Tomorrow, the job hunt resumes, and I feel caught up, fortified, and ready to kick-ass. It's a good place to be.

Wow, people are still commenting on your grey hair blog entry? You are going to be making new friends for the next 50 years from that one.
