My overriding goal this past year has been to get healthy. Physically and mentally.
I got back on track with eating healthy foods, and I made big changes to how I manage my schedule and what I'm doing with my time. I've thought a lot about priorities and what's important.
I made a commitment to getting a healthy amount of sleep.
I made a very difficult career decision based on recognizing I still needed more time to get back on my game. And onto an even better game.
Because coming into October, I was ready to kick it up a notch. September was a challenge that I got through ready to shake some things off and move on. One month earlier than I'd expected. So I declared for myself a "Fit October."
It seems like the perfect month for it. Nice and long and right before the holidays.
I kicked it off with South Beach Phase 1, and I realized that I'd never done Phase 1 before when I wasn't overweight. I was pretty hard core about it except for a couple evenings out. I definitely feel fully reset in my healthy eating, and I lost five pounds.
I started exercising regularly again. Once a week, a mix of The Firm and urban hiking. I frikkin' love urban hiking. I went hiking with my friend and creative partner Jules in Temescal Canyon a couple weeks ago, and it felt like resetting my clock to six years ago. Angelinos are so blessed to have wonderful urban hikes right in the city.
Also, I am so happy to be working on my upper body strength. Once a week isn't enough to get buff, but it's something, and it feels good.
In terms of my mental health I've been doing great! Finally! I'm always trying to be my best, but this is the first month I feel "back" and ready to push forward again. In terms of my creative work, I'm getting fully into to it and feeling really, really good about the projects in the hopper.
And finally, I started online dating again. Dating is fun, and I find online dating a truly fascinating experience. Such an interesting window into the world and a great way to meet and experience new people. I've made some new discoveries about myself in the romantic arena these days, too.
Which is good, because all I've been missing this year is some passionate kissing.
Kiss like you mean it, people. That's the energy that makes the world go round.

Speaking of urban hikes, pencil this in in case its avoided your radar: The 5th Annual Great LA Walk organized by Mike Schneider November 20: Wilshire Boulevard from downtown to the sea (or at least until you see the sea).

That sounds awesome! I think I have plans that day, but if they fall through I will definitely check it out.
